Groups welcome Alberta court ruling in Gladue case, hope it leads to change in the National Post on 4 July 2017.

Professor Gotell commented on the Alberta appellate ruling for a new trial in a murder case following the acquittal of Bradley Barton for murdering Cindy Gladue. The Appeal Court cited errors in the case round the judge’s direction to the jury, the victim’s identity, and sexual consent law as the reason for a new trial. Gottell cited racist and sexist comments that never should have been included in the first trial and objected to the court’s handling of the victim’s remains.
